Creative Recovery

Empowering Inverclyde through creativity and connection
Creative Recovery @ the Beacon is a bold, life-affirming, participant led programme designed in partnership with Your Voice Inverclyde and shaped by individuals with lived experience of recovery from alcohol and drug dependency. Rooted in compassion and creativity, this three-year initiative offers transformative opportunities for people in recovery—as well as their families and carers—to rebuild confidence, connect with others, and express their journeys through the arts.

Participants will explore art forms including drama, visual arts, movement, creative writing, and technical theatre. There will be opportunities for public sharings with the support of all the facilities Beacon Arts Centre has as it’s disposal like ticketing and tech. These activities aren’t just about performance, they’re about healing, collaboration, and celebrating personal growth. Each element is shaped by participants themselves, offering meaningful involvement in everything from theme selection and set design to performing and behind-the-scenes support.

This programme meets a vital need in Inverclyde, where recovery services have long recognised the value of creative engagement. By creating space for artistic exploration, the Beacon nurtures resilience, builds routine, and offers a safe, non-judgmental community. Whether on stage, behind the scenes, or attending as a supportive audience member, every participant is valued for their voice and contribution. More than an arts programme, Creative Recovery is a statement of hope and inclusion - challenging stigma, fostering new friendships, and enriching the cultural life of Inverclyde. With every brushstroke, line of dialogue, and spotlight, the Beacon becomes a place not just of performance, but of personal transformation.

Creative Recovery programme is supported by National Lottery Community Fund and Backstage Trust.
