Empowering young voices and creative futures in Inverclyde

Beacon Young Company Create is an ambitious, youth-led theatre project offering young people aged 16–21 in Inverclyde the chance to take centre stage - literally and figuratively. Developed by and for young people, this innovative three-year programme supports participants to write, produce, and perform their own original stage production to be performed in Beacon Arts Centre’s main auditorium.

More than just a performance, this is about giving young people full creative control. From budgeting and casting to set design, technical production, marketing, and audience engagement, participants will lead every step of the journey. Working in collaboration with professional theatre-makers and Beacon staff, they will develop real-world skills in project management, communication, teamwork, and resilience—essential tools for future careers and personal growth.

The project responds directly to the needs of local young people, many of whom face barriers linked to poverty, social isolation, and poor mental health. By creating a safe, inclusive environment for self-expression and storytelling, Beacon Young Company fosters confidence, connection, and self-worth. Participants build lasting friendships, learn to navigate setbacks, and take pride in seeing their ideas come to life on a professional stage.

This project also creates powerful community connections. Young people will reach out to other local groups, share their work with wider audiences, and engage in positive conversations with changemakers. They’ll also support the next generation by mentoring younger groups and contributing to the Beacon’s vibrant youth programme.

Beacon Young Company Create is about more than theatre - it’s about raising aspirations, building futures, and putting the spotlight on Inverclyde’s next generation of creative leaders.

Beacon Young Company Create writing project is supported by Youngstart through The National Lottery Community Fund.
