Author and playwright, Raymond Burke, presents his newly-updated guide to literary language.

Whether you are an avid reader or writer, a teacher or student, or just someone who is interested in literary devices, this is the show for you.

We asked Raymond, how would you describe your performance?, Here's what he had to say!

“My presentation/talk is a lighthearted journey through a series of devices that are used in literature, politics and everyday life: Figures like simile, metaphor and tmesis that we may not even realise that we are using. I wouldn’t describe it as a stand-up gig, but neither is it a dull lecture - it does indeed have its comedy moments. I have been presenting the show for a few years now and update it every time. Following my first gig, I realised that it was a bit too cerebral and serious - after all there are some rather obscure words explained - so I went back to the flat and worked through the night to intersperse a few personal anecdotes and weird examples from everyday life to inject a bit of humour. The rewrite apparently worked, word spread and within a few days, the show was an unexpected hit. Thanks to the Scottish Book Trust, I have been presenting it around Scotland ever since.”
