This event will discuss the chronological development of a Do-It-Yourself aesthetic in the Scottish independent music environment from the post-punk period and the explosion of independent record labels from Fast Product onwards to the present. This will encompass conversation on the areas covered by the Hungry Beat book co-authored by Douglas MacIntyre, then forward to 1986 and the Edinburgh C86 scene covered in Katy Lironi’s memoir, Matilda in the Middle. Creeping Bent: A Leap Into The Void explores 30 years of independent music through the lens of the Creeping Bent label, from 1994 to the present. There will be a focus on Creeping Bent artists from Edinburgh - Davy Henderson (Fire Engines/ The Nectarine No.9/ The Sexual Objects) and Gareth Sager (The Pop Group); London - Vic Godard (Subway Sect); and New York - Alan Vega (Suicide).

Katy and Douglas will also discuss their work curating SandFest charity concerts, which raises funds for Down’s Syndrome Scotland
