Beacon Arts Centre COVID-19 Update

Tuesday 21 April

This is a difficult time for everyone. In difficult times, inspirational art, culture and community spirit are more important than ever. During this particular difficult time, here at The Beacon we want to keep you connected to the arts and with each other.

Greenock Arts Guild Limited, the arts and education charity that runs the Beacon Arts Centre, suspended all public activities on 17 March until further notice, to support measures to combat the spread of COVID-19.

The temporary closure of the Beacon will have a serious impact on the charity and our mission to light up the lives of everyone in our community. We are determined to overcome the challenges we face and to find creative ways to continue to support the well-being of local people.

Please hold off cancelling your tickets, event bookings or memberships if you can. We fully understand that not everyone can do this but we need to find every way possible still to be operational when the crisis passes.

We will find ways to provide value to you in a different way if our original plans cannot be delivered. We will update our website and social media channels regularly and hope to re-open as soon as possible with a fantastic programme of performances and activities later in the year.

Our Box Office remains available online for ticket purchases, including for our fabulous pantomime Cinderella. If you were due to attend a Beacon performance in the next few weeks, our Box Office will be in touch.

Wednesday 15 April

In line with the UK and Scottish Government’s measures to enforce social distancing to combat the spread of COVID-19, we are today announcing the suspension of all performances at Beacon Arts Centre until the end of June 2020.

Pauline Kane

Theatre Director

In line with the UK and Scottish Government’s advice to avoid social contact, including in theatres, the Beacon Arts Centre is suspending all activities with immediate effect, until further notice, to support measures to combat the spread of COVID-19.

As always, our priority remains the health and wellbeing of our audiences, participants and staff.

We hope to reschedule affected performances and will be in touch with ticket holders as quickly as possible.

As an arts charity operating in the local community, we are reliant on the support of customers, funders and stakeholders. To ensure that we can re-open with the fantastic programme of performances and activities planned for later in the year, please consider supporting us in one of the following ways:

  • Turn the value of your ticket into a donation
  • Exchange your ticket for a performance in our winter season or a rescheduled performance
  • Transfer the value of your ticket into a credit to be used for future performances

We thank our customers for their support and patience during this uncertain time and are grateful to our funders for their continued support. We are also grateful to the many producers, artists and organisations we work with for their understanding.

We can be contacted at info@beaconartscentre.co.uk. Please bear with us while we respond to a large number of enquiries.

It is with great sadness that we temporarily close our doors and we look forward to welcoming you back when re-open.

Statement on COVID-19/ Coronavirus - Saturday 14 March

You will be aware that the Scottish Government has announced that from Monday 16 March, gatherings of more than 500 people which could potentially impact on the capacity of critical emergency services to respond to the Coronavirus outbreak should be cancelled.

At this time, as the emergency services do not routinely attend the Beacon Arts Centre, our position is that we remain open to bring you our programme of performances, classes and events, and we look forward to welcoming you here.

We will continue to monitor the latest advice from government bodies and take appropriate action for our customers, staff and visiting and partner organisations.

In common with many venues, we have recently taken measures to ensure that our team is both informed and equipped to take the necessary precautionary action to protect the health of everyone working and visiting the Beacon Arts Centre.

We will continue to provide updates on our position on this website.
